Germany reinforces NATO military presence in Lithuania

The German authorities have reinforced NATO’s military presence with the deployment of troops from the 41st Armored Infantry Brigade, a measure that had already been announced by the German government during the Atlantic Alliance summit in Madrid at the end of June.

The head of the Lithuanian Army, Valdemaras Rupsys, confirmed the information after meeting with Alfons Mais, inspector of the German Army, and pointed out that the decision is part of the measures taken by NATO after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The Alliance is thus seeking to increase security on its eastern flank, which is why the German military contribution envisages the deployment of arms, ammunition and command personnel from the 41st Brigade in Lithuania. Most of the soldiers are already prepared in Germany. The 41st Brigade is currently stationed in Brandenburg.

According to the Bundeswehr itself, the country’s Armed Forces, the group plans and conducts high-intensity combat for national and Alliance defense under the command of the 1st Armored Division,.

In addition, it is capable of planning, preparing and executing multinational ground operations in peacekeeping or peace enforcement deployments abroad.
