At least one person died Thursday in central Chile as a result of heavy rains and snowfall in the region, which triggered several flash floods and landslides, local media reported.
In the Coquimbo region, where strong winds and rainfall have been recorded, a woman has died after a tree fell on the tent in which she was spending the night.
“In the Biobío region 2,000 families are isolated, in Lota 25 homes are flooded and in the Maule region roads are cut off,” said the director of the National Emergency Office of the Chilean Ministry of the Interior (ONEMI), Ricardo Toro Tassara, at a press conference.
In this sense, ONEMI has informed that heavy rains have affected the region of Maule and a yellow alert has been declared in the region of Lota and in the region of Coquimbo.
