Mexico repatriates the first eight bodies of Mexican migrants killed in a trailer in Texas, U.S.

The Government of Mexico has begun on Wednesday the repatriation of the first eight bodies of the total of 25 Mexican migrants killed inside a trailer in San Antonio, Texas.

“Landed at the Toluca International Airport the first of at least three flights with the remains of those who unfortunately lost their lives last June 27,” explained in a statement the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministries of Foreign Affairs (SRE), of the Interior, through the National Institute of Migration (INM), and of National Defense (Sedena) are coordinating a series of flights to repatriate all the bodies.

“In accordance with the will of the relatives, the Mexican Government will repatriate 25 of 26 deceased Mexican nationals, and will cover the expenses to their places of origin,” the Secretariat added.

Last June 27, 53 migrants died in the U.S. city of San Antonio, Texas, among them 26 Mexicans in an abandoned trailer, in which there was no water, air conditioning or ventilation.

Forty-six migrants were found dead inside the trailer, and another seven died later in the hospital.

“The Government of Mexico offers its condolences for the loss of the Mexican people and reiterates its support and accompaniment for Mexicans abroad,” said the statement from the Mexican Foreign Ministry.
