An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 on the Richter scale was recorded Thursday in the town of Zamurilla in the Peruvian department of Tumbes, in the north of the country, near the border with Ecuador, according to the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP).
The earthquake was detected around 17.30 hours (local time), 163 kilometers north of the city of Zarumilla. Its hypocenter was at a depth of 67 kilometers, the Peruvian Seismological Center indicated on its Twitter account.
The service has not issued a tsunami warning and for the moment there is no information on possible victims or material damage caused by the tremor.
