The Iranian government said Thursday that “lying and misrepresenting the truth” is a “frequent” occurrence among US politicians, before rejecting accusations of Tehran’s responsibility for civilian deaths in Ukraine.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Naser Kanani has pointed out that White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan “accused Iran of supporting the killing of Ukrainians” through military support to Russia.
“Lying and misrepresenting the truth for evil purposes is a frequent thing among US politicians,” he said on his account on the social network Twitter, while criticizing the “unconditional support” of the United States to Israel, which he has called the “regime that murders the most children.”
Kanani himself stressed on Tuesday that “cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia dates back to before the outbreak of the war in Ukraine and there have been no specific developments in this regard in the recent period.”
Sullivan on Monday claimed Tehran was preparing to give Russia hundreds of drones to help Moscow in the conflict with Ukraine and highlighted that Iran supplied similar weapons to the Huthis in Yemen to help launch attacks against Saudi Arabia before a ceasefire was brokered.
